Where is the retreat?

The retreat is in Topanga Canyon, Los Angeles CA at the Tara Sanctuary.  It is a gorgeous 4000 sq ft, 3 story villa, on 5 acres of lush landscapes, surrounded by over 40 acres of Mountain Conservation land. The home has bright spacious interiors, cathedral ceilings, patios, open decks and yoga studio with mountain and sunset views.

How much does the retreat cost?

The retreat is $800, for all sleeping options. The Bring Your Own Bedding (BYOB) option costs $700 and is limited to four per retreat.

Those who sign up first have their choice of bedding available. First come. First served.

What are the sleeping options?

The sleeping options are;

All the dishes will be vegetarian. There is a vegan option. Any food allergies can be accommodated. There are three meals per day and an assortment of teas available at all times.

What do I need to bring for the weekend?

  • Enough yoga clothes for 6 physical practices

  • Yoga mat and towel

  • Water bottle

  • Meditation cushion (if you already have one, if not there are cushions there)

  • Toiletries (towels, soap, and shampoo are provided)

  • Journal and pen

  • * Optional pillows for extra comfort

  • * Optional instruments or art supplies

When does the retreat start and end?

The retreat starts Thursday evening around 6:30pm. The retreat ends Sunday evening around 8:00pm.

Can I come late or leave early?

It’s best to be there for the whole retreat.

I’m new to yoga is THE RETREAT doable?

Yes. The beauty of the techniques taught at AS I AM is there simplicity and accessibility. Novices are encouraged to join and will learn much from the weekend.

I’m an advanced practitioner is THE RETREAT valuable?

AS I AM’s curriculum is certainly valuable to the advanced practitioner. The retreat connects all the branches of yoga; yogic philosophy, psychology, postures, breathing, chanting, ritual, and meditation, into a single practice.

Since there are no phones, what if there’s an emergency at my home?

A key part of the retreat is separation from technology. There is an emergency phone number that is available on request.

What’s the schedule?

The first evening is casual. Welcoming, dinner, and meditation before sleep.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday share the same schedule. Wake up call is at 5:00am. The day is as follows; meditation practice, physical postures practice, breakfast and break, breath-workshop, physical posture practice, lunch and break, meditation, special evening practice, dinner, sleep.

The days are full but perfectly balanced with food and rest to create an enjoyable momentum.

What style of yoga are we learning?

Raja Yoga is the main style taught at the retreat. It is a form yogic psychology that focuses on mental health and uses the breath, body, ritual, chanting, and meditation to achieve the aim.

Once the mind is healthy, the larger goal of all yogic lineages is to experience the True Self.

What are the physical practices like?

The physical practices are slower, strength building, and alignment based. The longer holds in postures create deeper stretches, more sensations, and provide time to incorporate meditation and breath-work.
